چکیده

This paper presents a new approach to provide computer telephony integration for mobile users and distribute services over the hybrid network domain. A new multimedia processing paradigm is presented in form of a distributed, agentbased architecture, called ‘Distributed Agent Network’, DAN, together with example services. The proposed architecture is designed to support user and data mobility, media integration, and universal multimedia messaging. We provide a consistent distributed service platform and dedicated media processing algorithms for mobile multimedia conferencing, mobile messaging and related services. New agent-based techniques are introduced to deal with the abstraction of roles, embedding of media and to overcome the current obstacles in one-to-one and multiparty conferences. Techniques for novel software mobility are presented. The main benefits include scalability of services over different media types, and the ability to use agent intelligence in distributed communications for carrying out dedicated missions. The proposed architecture is demonstrated with a case study of ‘internet video call center’.

Design Considerations for the Implementation of a Mobile IP Telephony System in a Nuclear Power Plant

IP telephony, also called voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), is rapidly becoming a familiar term and technology that is implementing in the enterprise, education, government organizations and industry. Mobile IP telephony is the new generation of communications networks that makes possible the convergence of voice and data over wireless local area networks (WLANs). This technology combines da...

Integrating voiceXML with SIP services

We describe our Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based VoiceXML browser, sipvxml, that allows programming interactive voice response applications that are accessible from telephones as well as IP phones. We also describe how we have used sipvxml in our multi-party multimedia conferencing server. We propose other applications and extensions that can benefit from this technology in our IP teleph...

Perspectives on Multimedia Quality Prediction Methodologies for Advanced Mobile and IP-based Telephony

This paper describes the author’s perspective on multimedia quality prediction methodologies for advanced mobile and IP-based telephony, and reports related experiments and trials. First the paper describes the need for perceptual QoS assessment in which various quality factors in advanced mobile and IP-based telephony are analyzed. Then an objective quality prediction scheme is proposed from t...

Empirical Data from Mobile and IP Telephony

Over the recent years enormous changes in the telecommunication services, techniques, regulations and markets have taken place. However, even with many new exciting services the telephony service is still popular. This paper provides empirical traffic data and observations of telephony traffic patterns in mobile and IP telephony. They are presented and compared with old telephony patterns from ...

Distance learning using IP multicast

As the Internet and Internet technologies storm the world of communications, economic forces are driving IP to provide services well beyond what was originally intended. The simple flexible IP service model and the avoidance of the burdensome regulatory/contractual legacy of telephony have resulted in ubiquitous reach and greater economies. IP multicast promises to bring the same to group commu...
